TURNOR LAKE — The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) has charged a man with manslaughter following an incident in Turnor Lake.
According to an RCMP news release, on May 8 at approximately 2:55 a.m., the Buffalo Narrows RCMP received a report of an injured woman at a residence.
Officers from Buffalo Narrows and La Loche RCMP detachments responded immediately, the RCMP said, and located an injured woman at the residence. They arrested a man outside the home.
Emergency Medical Services attended and declared the woman to be dead. The RCMP said she has been identified as 21-year-old Shalayah Montgrand from Turnor Lake. Her family has been notified and Victim Services has been made available to them.
The RCMP said the HIU took carriage of the investigation and as a result, on May 8, 25-year-old Darian Montgrand from Turnor Lake is charged with one count of manslaughter under the Criminal Code.
Darian Montgrand is scheduled to appear by CCTV in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 11 at 10 a.m.
