LA LOCHE — A man charged in the death of a 21-year-old woman in Turnor Lake made his first appearance in La Loche Provincial Court on May 11.
Darian Montgrand, 25, was remanded and his matter was adjourned to June 1 to be spoken to.
Montgrand was charged following an investigation by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit into the death of 21-year-old Shalayah Montgrand, also of Turnor Lake. He is charged with manslaughter, three counts of possession of firearm and ammunition contrary to court conditions, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The charges stem from an incident on May 8, when Buffalo Narrows RCMP received a report at approximately 2:55 a.m. of an injured woman at a home in Turnor Lake. Officers located the victim and arrested a man outside the home.
Shalayah Montgrand was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
