CONSORT, Alta. — Alberta RCMP arrested a man with ties to both Saskatchewan and Alberta after a break-and-enter investigation in Consort, later confirming he also faces outstanding charges in Saskatchewan.
On May 4, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Consort RCMP responded to a report of a man, a dog, and a truck at a business near Township Road 364 and Range Road 74, where no one was reportedly to be.
The suspect, Jeffrey Joseph Proteau, 30, of Kindersley, Sask., and Medicine Hat, Alta., was arrested for break and enter. Investigators discovered he was under a Canada-wide driving prohibition, subject to multiple release conditions, and had outstanding warrants in Saskatchewan.
“This is a great example of how Alberta RCMP police officers are observant while they respond in order to ensure Albertans are protected” said Consort RCMP Detachment Commander, Sgt. Jeremy Houle in a press release May 13. “We work together with our surrounding detachments and inter-provincially to ensure the safety of our citizens and businesses within our communities. Working in partnership and receiving support from our communities allows us to work better together.”
Proteau is now facing charges in Alberta, including non-residential break and enter, driving while prohibited, mischief, and three counts of failing to comply with court ordered conditions.
Following a judicial interim hearing, Proteau was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on May 15.
A warrant extension was granted and Proteau will be transported back to Saskatchewan to face charges. According to Saskatchewan court records, he has outstanding charges in Saskatoon including breach of probation and failing to stop when being pursued by police.
