REGINA — A Regina-shot film has finally wrapped production as it heads towards a fall release date.
Last summer, Prairie Cat Productions shot One Perfect Date, a comedy-romance film starring Madison Tevlin, who plays the lead role of Emma, was shot in Regina over 23 days, before heading into its next stages.
“Since then, we have been in post-production. Myself and Tim Thurmeier, a freelance editor worked on it from mid-August until December,” said Lucas Frison, writer and director of One Perfect Date.
After editing was completed, Frison said the post-production phase was carried out in Montreal.
“The movie was a co-production between my company, Prairie Cat Productions, and Filmoption International Inc. So we did the rest of the post-production in Montreal. So that included the music, the sound mix, colour correction, visual effects and all those things.”
After months of work, the film’s post-production was completed, with Frison saying he was pleased with the final result.
“I'm so happy with how it turned out. And it's really been one of my favourite projects that I've ever worked on.”
Frison said the project came closer than anything else to matching his original vision with a few pleasant surprises.
“Along the way, a lot of surprises and a lot of discoveries with certain things and certain scenes or certain performances and the music was even better than I could have imagined.”
Frison first began writing the script for One Perfect Date in 2023, noting the amount of work required to bring a film to life.
“This shows you how much some films take much longer than that, even.”
Plot and release
One Perfect Date follows Emma as she finds her place in the world through exploring romance and entering the workforce — an experience she has never faced before.
The film’s runtime will be nearly 90 minutes.
Frison said One Perfect Date will start releasing at film festivals this fall.
“Hopefully, we can just get into as many of these bigger festivals as possible, just to generate positive word of mouth and start sharing it with some of these film festival audiences.”
Later this year, the film will also begin screening in select theatres.
“Filmoption International Inc. will be getting one perfect date in a theatrical release across Canada, which I'm super excited about,” said Frison.
Depending on its success, Frison said his company could absolutely produce more films locally in Regina.
“There is always the hope that you can generate some buzz and find some success with the film, so it can hopefully lead to another one in the future.”
He added, “We had a great experience, you know, shooting it here within various local businesses, and the community support was excellent throughout.”
