Update: REGINA — A widespread SaskPower outage impacted large portions of Regina and surrounding communities Thursday afternoon as crews worked to determine the cause and repair timeline.
According to SaskPower outage updates issued at 2:51 p.m. May 14, outages were reported across numerous Regina neighbourhoods, including Cathedral, Coronation Park, Lakeview, Normanview, Rochdale Park, Rosemont, North Central, Washington Park, Walsh Acres, Lakeridge, Hawkstone, Skyview and Harbour Landing-area neighbourhoods.
Outages also stretched beyond Regina into communities and resort areas including Craven, Lumsden, Regina Beach, Bethune, Chamberlain, Cupar, Southey, Strasbourg, Silton and multiple areas around Last Mountain Lake.
SaskPower said crews had been dispatched and were determining the cause of the outages and estimated repair times.
Additional outages were also reported in Bethune, Chamberlain, North Shore Resort and surrounding rural areas southwest of Findlater.
The outages come as southern Saskatchewan continues to experience strong winds and severe weather conditions throughout the day.
SASKATCHEWAN — High winds and damaged infrastructure caused widespread SaskPower outages across southern Saskatchewan on Thursday, with crews responding to multiple outages stretching from the southwest to southeast parts of the province.
Power outages were repoerted in Regina as well, but they were not reflected on SaskPower outage map as of 2.30 p.m.
Among the largest ongoing outages were those affecting Eastend, Robsart, Vidora, Consul, Claydon and surrounding rural areas near the Alberta and U.S. borders. SaskPower said damaged transmission structures and unsafe wind conditions delayed repairs overnight and into Thursday.
The Crown corporation said crews completed preparatory work for repairs, but high winds prevented work from resuming safely. SaskPower estimated power would not be restored before late afternoon Friday, May 15, for customers in Claydon, Consul, Eastend, Robsart and surrounding rural areas.
Additional outages were reported in Bethune, Chamberlain, North Shore Resort, North Grove and rural areas southwest of Findlater, with crews dispatched to determine the cause and repair timeline.
In Weyburn, crews continued investigating outages affecting areas south of First Avenue Northeast and south of Highway 39.
South of Radville, outages affected Gladmar, Lake Alma, Beaubier, Minton and surrounding rural areas to the U.S. border. SaskPower said crews were working to repair wind damage and estimated restoration by approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
South of Moose Jaw, outages impacted areas around Briercrest, Avonlea, Mortlach and Caronport. Crews estimated power would be restored around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Outages were also reported in Halbrite, Mainprize Regional Park, Midale and surrounding rural areas, with crews continuing to investigate the cause and repair time.
Further outages were reported north of Gull Lake, west of Parkman and southeast of Hillmond, where emergency repairs were expected to cause outages until about 3:30 p.m. Thursday in rural areas near Hillmond, Lashburn and Maidstone.
SaskPower said many southwest communities that lost power Wednesday evening, including areas near Shaunavon, Frontier and Swift Current, had power restored overnight, though some communities remained without service due to ongoing structure damage and severe wind conditions.
