MEADOW LAKE – A 31-year-old man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been sentenced to jail time.
Brenden Yew appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 14, where he received a sentence of 718 days. He was credited with 377 days of pre-trial custody, leaving 341 days remaining to serve.
Yew was wanted by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) and Correctional Service Canada for being unlawfully at large. A Canada-wide warrant was issued in 2025. He was arrested by Edmonton Police Service in May 2025, and returned to Saskatchewan.
According to court documents, he faced new charges after escaping lawful custody in September 2025 while at St. Joseph’s Hospital, fleeing from an officer during a medical visit.
That same day, additional charges were laid at Canoe Lake First Nation. They included possession of firearms while prohibited under prior court orders issued in 2013, 2015, and 2021. He was also accused of carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and resisting arrest. In addition, he was charged with intentionally shooting a .22 calibre rifle in a careless manner and possession of a firearm without a license.
According to parole documents, Yew was stabbed 15 times after leaving a street gang.
In 2021, Yew was sentenced in Meadow Lake Provincial Court to two years in prison for drug trafficking.
Yew was given a lifetime firearms ban and ordered to provide his DNA to the National DNA Data Bank.
