SASKATOON — A man armed with an axe tried to damage a gas line outside a Saskatoon church over the weekend, prompting an investigation now involving the Saskatoon Police Service Hate Crime Unit.
Saskatoon police say they were called around 10 a.m. on May 16, after witnesses reported a man striking an exterior gas line with an axe at a church in Fairhaven, in the 3400 block of Fairlight Drive.
By the time officers arrived, the suspect had fled. Police say the gas line wasn’t severed, and no injuries were reported.
The man is described as 25 – 35 years of age with age with a dark goatee. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood, grey sweatpants and black running shoes with white socks.
Members of the SPS Hate Crime Unit are assisting due to the fact the incident occurred at a religious gathering place.
