SASKATCHEWAN — Gas prices dipped slightly in Regina, Saskatoon and across Saskatchewan over the past week, even as the national average continued to climb, according to GasBuddy.
GasBuddy’s daily survey of 82 gas stations in Regina showed average retail gasoline prices fell 0.7 cents per litre over the past week to 182.53 cents per litre on May 18.
In Saskatoon, average prices dropped 1.8 cents per litre to 182.46 cents per litre, while the provincial average fell 0.8 cents per litre to 182.45 cents per litre.
By comparison, the national average rose 2.9 cents per litre over the past week to 187.64 cents per litre.
Despite the slight weekly decline in Saskatchewan, prices remain significantly higher than a year ago. Regina prices were 49.9 cents per litre higher than the same date in 2025 and 14.8 cents higher than one month ago.
GasBuddy historical data shows Regina gas prices on May 18 have varied widely over the last five years, ranging from 125.55 cents per litre in 2021 to 186.36 cents per litre in 2022.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said national fuel prices moved higher due to renewed geopolitical uncertainty and tight global oil supplies.
“Canada’s national average gasoline price moved higher over the last week, with most provinces seeing increases as oil prices regained momentum following a brief period of relief,” De Haan said.
He noted hopes that diplomatic progress between the United States and Iran could ease supply concerns faded after recent international talks failed to produce a breakthrough.
“With global oil inventories continuing to trend toward historically tight levels, markets remain highly sensitive to geopolitical developments and potential supply disruptions,” De Haan said.
“As a result, gasoline and diesel prices are likely to remain volatile, and any sustained increase in oil prices could begin pushing retail fuel prices higher across Canada in the weeks ahead.”
