ASSINIBOIA — Every year, National Paramedic Services Week provides an opportunity to recognize the dedication, professionalism and compassion of paramedics and emergency medical responders across Canada. From May 17-23, communities come together to celebrate the individuals who stand ready 24 hours a day to respond when people need help the most.
This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” highlights the importance of teamwork, collaboration and community partnerships in delivering high-quality emergency medical care.
Cam Hutchinson, EMS chief with Hutch Ambulance, told the Assiniboia Times, “At Hutch Ambulance Service, this theme reflects the heart of everything we do. Emergency medical services are not built on one person alone — they rely on strong partnerships between paramedics, dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, nurses, physicians, healthcare facilities, and the communities we proudly serve. Every successful patient outcome begins with teamwork, rapid response, and compassionate care.”
Paramedics and EMS personnel are often the first health-care professionals to arrive during a medical emergency, whether that be MVCs, cardiac or respiratory events, or trauma. These professionals play a vital role in stabilizing patients and providing lifesaving interventions before arrival at hospital.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and make critical decisions in challenging situations can directly impact patient outcomes every single day.
Hutchinson added, “Hutch Ambulance Service is proud to provide professional emergency medical services to communities throughout Saskatchewan. Our team is committed to delivering reliable, compassionate, and patient-focused care while continually advancing training, equipment, and operational readiness. By working closely with local healthcare providers and emergency services partners, we strive to improve emergency response coordination and ensure patients receive the best possible care from the moment help is called.”
These emergency professionals can endure long shifts, unpredictable conditions and emotionally difficult situations. Despite these challenges, paramedics and EMS personnel continue to answer the call with professionalism, courage and compassion.
Hutch Ambulance Service is actively recruiting to expand its team.
“As the demand for emergency medical services continues to grow, we are currently seeking dedicated and motivated Primary Care Paramedics who are passionate about serving their communities and making a difference in people’s lives. Immediate openings are available for qualified PCPs interested in joining a progressive and community-focused ambulance service. We welcome individuals who value teamwork, professionalism, and excellence in patient care.”
Hutchinson acknowledged that during National Paramedic Services Week, they extend their sincere appreciation to all paramedics, emergency responders, health-care workers and community partners who work collaboratively to improve outcomes every shift and every day.
