YELLOW GRASS — A truck driver was taken to hospital after a collision involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck south of Yellow Grass early Thursday morning.
According to Yellow Grass Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched at 6:02 a.m. May 21 to the collision on Highway 39, about one kilometre southeast of Yellow Grass.
Milestone RCMP said officers received a report of the two-vehicle collision at approximately 6 a.m. on Highway 39, just south of Yellow Grass.
The crash initially closed all lanes of Highway 39 as emergency crews responded at the scene.
In an update issued later Thursday morning, Yellow Grass Fire Rescue said the collision involved a pickup truck and a loaded Super B semi-truck, with the pickup coming to rest on nearby railroad tracks.
Both vehicles were occupied only by their drivers.
RCMP said the sole occupant of the semi-truck was assessed at the scene by EMS.
Yellow Grass Fire Rescue said the semi driver was not injured.
The sole occupant of the pickup truck was transported to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance with injuries described by RCMP as non-life threatening in nature.
Firefighters established a landing zone for the air ambulance while crews worked to clear debris from the highway.
Highway 39 remained closed to traffic until a corridor was cleared to allow one-way traffic through the area.
Yellow Grass Fire Rescue later confirmed the highway had reopened and crews had cleared the scene, although RCMP remained on site awaiting tow services to remove the pickup truck.
Regina RCMP Combined Traffic Services assisted with traffic control.
Milestone RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
Motorists were reminded to slow down and move over for emergency and recovery vehicles with activated warning lights.
