SASKATOON — A series of targeted enforcement initiatives led by Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) resulted in hundreds of tickets, multiple impaired driving suspensions, and dozens of vehicles deemed unsafe to the road.
On May 6 and 7, SPS Traffic members alongside other provincial agencies conducted a commercial vehicle enforcement initiative around Saskatoon and on Highway 16 just south of Langham.
A total of 295 commercial vehicles were checked over the two-day project resulting in 70 tickets being issued, 89 warnings, and 44 complete vehicle or trailer inspections. Twenty-one vehicles were taken out of service after being deemed non-road worthy and four drivers had their license suspended for drug impairment.
On May 20 and 21, officers coordinated the Saskatchewan Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) in Saskatoon and focused enforcement efforts on impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelt use, speeding, unlicensed driving/vehicle registration, and vehicle equipment regulations.
In those two days, police impounded four vehicles that were being driven by people who were impaired. A total of 39 commercial vehicles were inspected, 12 of them required further assessment, while 17 were taken off the road and deemed out of service.
Eighty-three motorists were issued tickets for distracted driving and 169 tickets issued for speeding.
In the entirety of STEP 2026, 368 tickets were issued.
The Saskatoon Police Service would like to thank members of the public for accommodating these traffic safety initiatives.
