Update: Three people charged in Melville after robbery investigation

Update:

MELVILLE — The Saskatchewan RCMP says three people have been charged after an investigation into a robbery led Melville RCMP to seize weapons, stolen property and illicit drugs at a residence in the city.

According to the RCMP, on May 22, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on 2 Avenue East in Melville. The search warrant was related to the investigation into an incident that occurred the previous day. It was reported a male robbed and assaulted an individual, and discharged a firearm. The victim did not report serious physical injuries to police.

Officers arrested five people without incident at the residence.

Members located and seized two BB guns. The RCMP said one resembled a semi-automatic weapon and the other resembled a handgun, as well as a magazine, ammunition, cash, and a small quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine. Officers also located two bicycles reported as stolen from a business in Melville on May 21.

As a result of a continued investigation, 44-year-old Tyrone Sayer from Regina is charged with nine counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a public order; three counts of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking; two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; and one count each of possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized, assault with a weapon, robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, discharge a firearm with intent and pointing a weapon. 

Vincent Sayer, 46, from Melville is charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, two counts of possessing weapons contrary to an order and one count of failing to comply with a probation order.

Maija Eashappie, 33, from Regina is charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and one count each of possession of cocaine and methamphetamine.  

All three are scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on May 25. 

Two other individuals arrested were released without charges.

The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, Regina's Serious Crimes Unit, Police Dog Services and Yorkton Forensic Identification Services assisted with this investigation.

The Saskatchewan RCMP says several people have been taken into custody in Melville as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to an email sent in the evening of May 22, there was an increased police presence in the 300-block of Second Avenue East in the city. 

In a follow-up e-mail in the morning of May 23, the RCMP said there is no longer an increased police presence in the community. Several individuals have been taken into custody, and the RCMP said there is no known risk to public safety.

An investigation continues and the RCMP said a full update will be provided when possible.
