CUMBERLAND HOUSE — Cumberland House RCMP have charged a man after a person was seriously injured in a residential fire in Cumberland House.
On May 26 at approximately 10:40 p.m., Cumberland House RCMP received a report of a fire at a residence in Cumberland House.
Officers immediately responded along with local fire and EMS. The investigation determined that five adults were in the residence at the time of the fire. Four of the adults were assessed at the scene by EMS. The fifth adult was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious in nature. The home was destroyed by the fire.
Based on evidence police have gathered, it’s believed the fire is suspicious in nature.
As a result of the continued investigation, 36-year-old Justin Sewap, from Cumberland House, has been charged with:
- four counts, arson with disregard for human life; and
- four counts, attempted murder.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Nipawin on May 28.
