REGINA — A 45-year-old man is facing charges after police say he pointed an imitation firearm at a Regina Police officer.
On May 31at approximately 10:45 p.m., police were dispatched to the Glen Elm area on Froom Crescent for a report of a mischief. The caller reported that a man, who was known to them, was throwing rocks at their car.
Police located the suspect when they arrived and as an officer approached him, he became confrontational, reached into his pocket and pulled out what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at the officer. The officer determined the firearm wasn’t real and safely brought the suspect into custody without further incident. The item was ultimately determined to be a lighter designed to resemble a firearm.
The man was charged with using an imitation firearm during an indictable offence, possession of a weapon, and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
He appeared in Regina court on June 1.
