ESTEVAN — A motorist is facing a hefty fine after being caught speeding in Estevan recently.
The May 28 report for the Estevan Police Service said that during the day shift, members conducted targeted traffic enforcement that resulted in several tickets being issued, including one for an individual travelling at 92 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a 50 km/h zone within city limits. The EPS said the driver was issued a traffic ticket with a fine of $750.
That same day, members assisted officers with the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) and the Saskatchewan Deputy Sheriffs during an eviction at a residence whose ownership had reverted to a financial institution. The EPS said several individuals were located on the property and all were escorted without incident, after they were given time for personal items to be removed.
An arrest warrant was executed on behalf of the Regina Police Service for an individual located in Estevan that was wanted regarding a sexual assault investigation. The EPS said the individual was processed and subsequently released with a future court date in Regina.
An Estevan man was arrested during contact with police. The EPS said it was determined that he had warrants for his arrest related to traffic offences and failing to attend court. He was processed and released with a future court date to speak to the matters.
A complaint related to a former spouse trespassing and being unlawfully in a dwelling house was received, and the EPS said it remains under investigation.
An assault complaint involving young people was received and is also under investigation.
A report of a break and enter to an apartment suite was investigated May 29. The EPS said it was determined to have occurred several weeks prior. The matter remains under investigation.
A break and enter to a business in the Pleasantdale area was investigated in which the EPS said it is believed the suspect(s) were attempting to gain access to the neighbouring business. An investigation into this offence is continuing.
EPS members mediated a domestic disturbance in which both parties alleged the other person was behaving irrationally. Following separate police contact with each individual, the EPS said the matter was temporarily resolved.
Police responded to a request from a business in the city centre area to assist with a belligerent customer. The the individual left the scene prior to police arrival, and the EPS said additional follow-up regarding the complaint will occur.
EPS members responded to a request for assistance from staff at a local hotel to deal with an intoxicated man yelling at other guests in the parking lot. The EPS said the man was located and found to be grossly intoxicated, and he was arrested. He was lodged in cells until sober to ensure his safety.
A short time later, the EPS said members attended to a local bar to assist with an intoxicated man who was refusing to leave. Upon police arrival, the man was arrested for public intoxication and was lodged in cells until sober.
Blood sample analysis from a recent impaired driving investigation was received from a lab. The EPS said it confirmed that the driver was operating a vehicle while exceeding the legal limit of THC in his system. The driver will be arrested, charged and released with a future court date to speak to the charge.
The EPS received a Report Impaired Drivers (RID) call in relation to a white van driving erratically. Members located the vehicle and the driver participated in a roadside screening device test, and the EPS said it determined he had no alcohol in his system. No other signs of impairment were noted and the driver was sent on his way with a warning about the observed driving actions.
EPS members conducted searches at the residence of two individuals bound by court-ordered conditions, including to submit to a warrantless search of their property. The EPS said no contraband was located during either search and the individuals were found to be in compliance with their release conditions.
The EPS participated in the Doors Open Estevan program during the May 30 day shift, which provided tours of the police service building to approximately 200 people.
Members assisted to mediate a tenant-landlord dispute during the day shift.
A report of an insecure residence in the central area of Estevan was investigated and believed to have been caused by high winds. The EPS said no signs of forced entry or damage to the property was observed and no items were reported to be missing.
A complaint of a fraud in which the EPS said an individual provided money to view a rental property was received. The matter remains under investigation.
A report of a possible impaired driver at a local business in southeast Estevan came in. The EPS said the vehicle left the scene prior to members' arrival and patrols of the area did not locate a vehicle matching the description provided.
The EPS received a complaint of a white Chevrolet Blazer that was driving erratically. The vehicle was located and the EPS said a traffic stop conducted, during which the driver was determined to be sober. The motorist was cautioned regarding the observed driving actions and sent on their way.
Three teenage girls, ages 17, 16 and 14, were arrested. The EPS said the teens went to another youth’s home and attempted to force entry into the residence. As a result of the investigation, the trio was charged with breaking and entering to a residence and mischief. All were subsequently released to their parents and will appear in Estevan Youth Court at a future date to speak to the charges.
EPS members attended to a local bar following a complaint of a fight between patrons after a man followed a woman into the restroom. The EPS said one of the men involved in the fight was located a short distance away after leaving the scene in a taxi. According to the EPS, he was grossly intoxicated and belligerent towards police, which resulted in his arrest for public intoxication. He was found to have open alcohol at the time of the arrest and was issued a related ticket, and was lodged in cells to be released when sober.
Police conducted a search of an Estevan man's residence in accordance with court-ordered release conditions. During the search, the EPS said a small quantity of methamphetamine was located, which resulted in the man being arrested for breaching his conditions. He was lodged in cells to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on June 1.
A report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment in northeast Estevan was received during the May 31 day shift. The EPS reported members attended and assisted with mediation between the parties.
