REGINA — Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding is leading a mission to China to bolster trade and promote Saskatchewan's strategic interests in agriculture.
According to Sask. Trade and Export Development, the minister's priority is to strengthen relationships with companies that have resumed purchasing Saskatchewan's canola, peas and beef products, following tariff reductions achieved during Premier Scott Moe's January mission to China.
"We understand that ongoing dialogue with China underpins trust and understanding between our jurisdictions," Kaeding said. "That's why Saskatchewan has been present in China for close to two decades. As we continue to prioritize our relationship, I am excited to highlight the vital role we can play in supporting the country's food and energy security."
As a part of the mission, the delegation will meet with private companies, business leaders, post-secondary institutions and government officials from China. Meetings will take place in Beijing, as well as the provinces of Jilin and Guangdong. In 1984, Saskatchewan and Jilin Province established themselves as sister provinces.
"Our government is proud to have Jilin as a sister province," Kaeding said. "This mission is a great opportunity to reignite our longstanding relationship and further explore the opportunities that exist between our two regions, for the benefit of citizens both in Saskatchewan and China."
