REGINA — Regina’s diverse multi-day cultural event is right around the corner.
Mosaic – A Festival of Cultures starts on Thursday, with four more pavilions than last year.
“We have 19 pavilions in total. And the brand new ones. We've got a Persian one that's at the Wa Wa Shriners Temple downtown, and the Bangladesh, which is out by the Sandra Schmurler Centre,” said Mosaic chair Terry Zwarych.
Bangladesh had been part of the festival roughly 13 years ago. Meanwhile, two rotating pavilions, Polish and Miorita Romanian, will also return for 2026.
These four pavilions join 15 others: First Nations, Métis, Spirit of China, Chinese (RCCA), Scottish, Ukrainian, Filipino, Latino, Italian, Indian, Hispanic, Greek, Hungarian, Hellenic and Austrian.
Zwarych said this shows the festival is growing.
“It means that Regina is growing and growing in a positive way by all means. It's always nice to see new cultures putting in the pavilions.”
Zwarych also emphasized that Regina’s communities are eager to share and celebrate their cultures.
“If you go to the Latino pavilion [for example], you're getting the music, you're getting the food, and you're getting the entertainment there.”
For these community groups behind the pavilions, Zwarych stressed the importance of people coming out to support them.
“This is one of their major fundraisers, and it helps them do all of the good stuff that their community does throughout the whole year.”
The event is expected to see improved numbers after the 2025 festival saw a drop in attendance from running the same week as the Saskatchewan Roughriders season opener.
As in previous years, the City of Regina will provide special bus routes to and from each pavilion, with rides included in the cost of a passport.
The festival runs this year from June 4 to June 6. Details on it can be found here.
