PRINCE ALBERT —The Prince Albert Police Service responded to 227 calls for service between 6:30 p.m. on May 29, and 6:30 a.m. on June 1. During that time, officers investigated four aggravated assaults, laid charges in one aggravated assault investigation, and arrested two individuals in connection with a commercial break and enter.
Business break in
At approximately 10:46 a.m. on May 31, police responded to an alarm at a business in the 100 block of 13th Street East.
Officers arrived and located two men inside a secured compound associated with the business. The suspects were observed transferring stolen property over a fence before fleeing on foot when confronted by police.
Both suspects were located and arrested a short distance away. Investigators recovered the stolen property and returned it to the business owner. Damage to property at the business is estimated at approximately $2,000.
A 33-year-old male and a 36-year-old male are jointly charged with break and enter. Both made their first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 1.
Man seriously injured in River Street attack
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 29, police were called to the unit block of River Street West for a report of an injured person.
Officers attended and located a man suffering from injuries consistent with an edged weapon.
Officers provided first aid until Parkland Ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to Victoria Hospital in serious condition for treatment.
The scene was secured, and investigators identified a suspect, but initial efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 30, the suspect was located and arrested during an unrelated police investigation. The 23-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault and failing to comply with probation.
He made his first court appearance on June 1, in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Two men injured, one wanted
At approximately 1:10 a.m. on May 30, police were called to the 800 block of River Street West following a report of an injured person.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suffering from a serious injury had left the area prior to police arrival.
Officers conducted patrols in an effort to locate him. A short time later, officers located a second injured male nearby. The male had minor injuries, declined medical attention, and was uncooperative with investigators.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., police received a report of an injured male in the 600 block of 17th Street West.
Officers attended and determined the injured male matched the description of the individual sought in relation to the initial call. Parkland Ambulance transported the male to Victoria Hospital for treatment. His injuries were consistent with an edged weapon and were determined to be non-life-threatening.
During the investigation, officers determined the injured male was wanted in connection with an unrelated aggravated assault investigation and he was arrested following medical treatment.
Investigators believe the two injured males may be connected. The investigation remains ongoing.
Two stabbing victims go to hospital
In the first incident, at approximately 2:35 a.m. on May 30, police at Victoria Hospital on an unrelated matter learned that a man had arrived with multiple injuries consistent with an edged weapon.
The victim was treated by medical staff and his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Through investigation, officers learned the incident is believed to have occurred at a licensed establishment in the 3200 block of 2nd Avenue West. Police attended the location and reviewed available surveillance footage, but the incident was not captured and investigators were unable to identify any witnesses.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Then at approximately 10:20 a.m. on May 30, police were dispatched to Victoria Hospital after receiving a report that a man had arrived with injuries consistent with an edged weapon.
The victim was assessed and treated by medical staff. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Officers attempted to speak with the victim, but investigators were unable to obtain details regarding where or when the incident occurred. As a result, police have limited information regarding the circumstances surrounding the assault and the investigation remains ongoing.
