MONTREAL LAKE — The case for a man who pleaded guilty to arson causing damage to property for sparking a wildfire in northern Saskatchewan last summer has been adjourned to August.
Jason Halkett, 29, entered the guilty plea earlier in April.
The fire started in the Weyakwin area, northeast of Saskatoon, and caused damage to structures and forced several communities to evacuate.
The fire also burned more than 200,000 hectares of land.
Halkett, who is from La Ronge, was scheduled to appear at a sentencing hearing on June 4 in Montreal Lake court.
According to the court office, the sentencing has been adjourned to Aug. 20, as the Defence is seeking a pre-sentence report in the case.
The offence carries a sentence of up to 14 years imprisonment.
