ESTEVAN — A man has been arrested in Bienfait following an incident involving a vehicle on the weekend.
According to the June 7 report for the Estevan Police Service, members received a request for assistance from a man in Bienfait who reported that another man was attempting to run him over with a vehicle. The EPS said the caller reported that he was unable to reach the RCMP at the time of the incident and therefore contacted EPS for assistance. Officers went to the town and located the victim.
Through the investigation, the EPS said police learned that the suspect had broken several windows at the victim's residence, driven a vehicle at the victim and pinned him against a fence. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived.
Members located the suspect vehicle and surrounded the residence where the vehicle was parked. Officers initiated communication with the suspect and following a short delay, convinced the 31-year-old man to exit the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
He was subsequently turned over to the RCMP, who assumed control of the investigation. No information was immediately available on charges.
That same day, the EPS investigated a report of a man uttering threats to shoot a staff member at a business in the city centre. According to the EPS, statements have been obtained from both individuals involved and further follow up will be conducted.
A report of a fire at an east Estevan business was received by the EPS and determined to be unfounded. The matter was forwarded to the Estevan Fire Rescue Service for follow up.
EPS members attended to a complaint of a domestic disturbance in the central area. Following police mediation, the EPS said a third party staying at the residence agreed to remain and ensure nothing further was instigated by either party.
EPS members responded to a complaint June 6 of a man walking along a road in a residential area. He was reportedly carrying a firearm. The EPS said officers located and detained the individual, and through the investigation, determined that he had not been in possession of firearms or other weapons. He was subsequently released from police custody without charges.
Police responded to a request for assistance involving a man who had allegedly uttered threats towards a woman at a condominium complex. The EPS said the man was located at a residence and found to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He was arrested for uttering threats and lodged in cells to be released when sober.
Members responded to a request for assistance from staff at a hotel in the downtown area. The EPS said a man who was at the business was served a trespass notice and advised that he is no longer welcome on the property. The individual complied with the notice and was escorted from the property without further incident.
Police received several calls regarding a woman causing a disturbance in the downtown area. She had entered multiple local businesses, where the EPS said she was yelling at staff and behaving erratically. Callers believed she was under the influence of drugs. Officers attended the area and located the 32-year-old Estevan woman, who was subsequently arrested for causing a disturbance, mischief and breach of probation. She was lodged in cells and released when sober, with a future date to appear in Estevan Provincial Court.
A red Chevrolet Impala failed to stop for an EPS Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan member who was attempting to conduct a vehicle stop. The EPS said the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and the EPS said the member did not pursue. An investigation into the actions of the driver is ongoing.
EPS members attended to St. Joseph’s Hospital to assist with a combative and abusive client. The EPS said members mediated the situation and assisted to calm the individual so he could receive treatment.
A theft of bicycle from the Centennial area is under investigation.
