The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is coming out of its 2026 Annual General Meeting with a focus on continued growth, competitive balance, and improving the fan experience across the province.
The AGM, held June 4th to 6th in Warman, brought together league governors, coaches, sponsors and staff to review the past season and map out the future of the league.
SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre says the league continues to be in a strong position following a highly competitive year.
“It is an exciting time for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League,” McIntyre said. “We are coming off a highly successful season, which featured unprecedented parity with the Flin Flon Bombers being awarded their first SJHL championship in 33 years.”
McIntyre also pointed to strong fan support and engagement numbers across the league.
“Last season, over 250,000 fans attended an SJHL game, and fans viewed over 9 million minutes of SJHL hockey on FloHockey,” he added. “Almost 50 percent of all players were from Saskatchewan.”
One of the major focuses coming out of the AGM is improving the broadcast product, including new camera and encoding upgrades designed to enhance the viewing experience for fans both in-arena and online.
“Everyone is going to have a manned digital camera and it’s really going to look great in HD,” McIntyre said. “It will also allow teams to add sponsorship features and improve their local broadcast production.”
The league also discussed scheduling, with ongoing efforts to reduce weekday games and increase weekend matchups based on travel and rivalries, while still refining a balanced 56-game regular season.
McIntyre says the league remains focused on development and opportunity for young players as the SJHL Prospects Draft approaches.
“The SJHL Draft is exclusively for Saskatchewan players born in 2010 and 2011,” he said. “It’s a chance for teams to retool and for young players to take the next step in their hockey journey.”
Training camps are set to open August 28th, with the regular season beginning September 18th and playoffs scheduled for March 21st.
