CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 51 calls from June 4 to 10, some of which included:
- seven 911 Act calls,
- two animal calls,
- one abandoned vehicle,
- two assaults,
- two assisting the general public,
- one criminal harassment,
- six failure to comply with orders,
- one false alarm,
- one fraud under $5,000,
- two harassing communications,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- two mischiefs under $5,000,
- one public nudity,
- two suspicious persons,
- five thefts under $5,000,
- three traffic collisions,
- nine traffic offences,
- one wellbeing check, and
- two prisoners.
Firearm thefts continue
On June 6, the Canora RCMP investigated a theft of firearm in the RM of Keys. The caller reported a .204 calibre Remington Rifle with a scope was stolen out of their vehicle. Similar thefts of items from vehicles were also reported in Sturgis and the RM of Preeceville. Police believe the thefts are related to a male responsible for rash of thefts from Wadena to Kamsack. Police would like to remind the public to lock your vehicle doors to prevent thefts from occurring.
911 is not a plumbing service
A female called 911 on June 6 reporting her tap broke on her washing machine and there was water everywhere. The caller reported she couldn’t get a hold of a plumber but turned off the water. Canora RCMP members called the female and provided her direction on the proper use of 911.
Vehicle damage to golf course
The Canora RCMP investigated a report of vandalism as the Preeceville Golf Course on June 6. The caller reported a vehicle drove out onto the gold course damaging the fairways. The incident occurred at 1 a.m. Investigation is ongoing.
Truck hits bridge
On June 6, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report that a truck drove into a bridge north of Preeceville on Highway 9. Police investigated and determined the driver may have fallen asleep. The driver was not injured.
Seeder hits power pole
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on June 9 to a report that an air seeder struck a power pole in a field causing the live power line to fall between the seeder and tractor. There were no injuries. SaskPower was dispatched to the scene and turned off the power to the line.
