REGINA — Two notable motions at Wednesday’s Regina city council meeting have been tabled for a later date.
Council was scheduled to discuss a report from the fare-free transit pilot project conducted last fall at Johnson Collegiate.
Based on the agenda, nine delegates were in favour of the city expanding free transit for high-schoolers for affordability, carbon reduction and educational benefit.
During an executive committee meeting in late May, councillors proposed changes to the report, including targeting schools with high demand for bus passes.
Any decisions on expanding free transit would have to be approved in the city’s 2027 budget.
The other notable motion came from Ward 10 Coun. Clark Bezo who was absent during Wednesday’s meeting.
Bezo motion is intended to review regulations and fines related to city infrastructure in the wake of overpass incidents in the province.
Any assessments would be collaborated with the City of Regina, the City of Saskatoon, and the Ministry of Government Relations.
Through extensive work, the city administration would then return with a report in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Both motions will now be discussed on June 24.
