MAPLE CREEK — An Ontario man accused of stealing five pets from a Saskatchewan home appeared in Maple Creek court on June 11.
According to Saskatchewan RCMP, on Oct. 10, 2025, Maple Creek RCMP received a report of a break and enter. Following their investigation, they charged 36-year-old Salahidin Khaled Shahin with break and enter, and theft under $5,000. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed he was arrested on May 24 by BC Highway Patrol and three cats and two dogs were found in the vehicle.
BC RCMP say that a BC Highway Patrol officer stopped a blue sedan on the Malahat Highway near Goldstream Park at approximately 2 p.m., on May 24, after the officer had noticed the driver giving him unusual looks. The officer ran the Ontario licence plate and discovered that the man driving was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant issued in Saskatchewan for theft of animals. The BC RCMP said the animals matched the description of the two dogs and three cats that were found in the blue sedan.
Saskatchewan RCMP say the accused and victim were known to each other.
