ROCANVILLE — At their meeting on Wednesday, Rocanville Town Council discussed a grant through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities—the FCM Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation Funding Opportunity—and will be applying for that grant for up to a million dollars for town water line replacement.
Town Administrator Tanya Strandlund says the town’s pre-application for the grant has been approved.
“We have Associated Engineering working with us, and one of the engineers found this grant, and they have done a bunch of research and figured out the amount of breaks we are having now are connected to drought, to freeze and thaw cycles and they are causing stress on our older infrastructure,” says Strandlund.
“The climate risk assessment we completed with them brought to light that with all the changes, it does impact a large amount of people and our history is showing we have a lot of breaks.”
Savings account set up for rink roof
The town has opened a savings account specifically for the skating rink roof renovations, so that when money is donated or comes in for the project, it is set aside in a dedicated account. A rink fundraising committee has been launched and has actively started fundraising for the project.
Town rounding up costs for sidewalk repairs
The town has been working with Finishing Touch Construction out of Langenburg to get quotes on what it will cost to start repairing their sidewalks, including wheelchair ramps and crosswalks.
The town will be allocating a portion of their budget every year to fixing up Rocanville’s sidewalks and also making them more accessible.
