WEYBURN — The theft of a trailer and a three-vehicle collision were among the 88 calls for service for the Weyburn Police Service (WPS) from June 7-14.
While on patrol, members observed a trailer that the WPS believed was stolen. It was attached to a truck whose owner is known to police. The WPS said a subsequent investigation confirmed the trailer had been stolen from a rural property outside of Weyburn.
The truck's owner was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and two counts of breach of a release order.
The WPS said the accused was held in custody and appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on June 15. He is slated to be in Weyburn court on June 16.
In other recent police news, on June 11, WPS members responded to a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of First Avenue and King Street. According to the WPS, the investigation determined that one vehicle rear-ended another in front of it, causing a chain reaction that resulted in a third vehicle becoming involved. One vehicle was towed from the scene due to damage. The WPS said a man was issued a traffic ticket for following too closely.
On June 14, police responded to multiple calls involving intoxicated men at licensed establishments and private residences. On two separate occasions, the WPS said men were arrested for being drunk in public and lodged in police cells until sober.
Anyone with information regarding any of these matters, or any other matter of a criminal nature, is encouraged to contact the WPS at 306-848-3250, the RCMP at 310-7267, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
