CREIGHTON – Creighton RCMP are investigating after counterfeit Canadian currency was reportedly passed at a local business.
On June 15, Creighton RCMP received a report of counterfeit $50 bills being used at a business in Creighton. The counterfeit bills seized by police all had the same serial number: AHU5885903.
Saskatchewan RCMP are advising the public to remain vigilant when handling cash transactions and to be familiar with common indicators of counterfeit bills, including:
– Counterfeit bills may have security elements that appear to be applied as stickers or overlays.
– They may feel different than real bills and may be easily damaged or ripped.
– They may differ in size, shape or colour.
– They may contain holographic images and numbers that do not match the bill denomination.
– They may have black line or bars on them.
Creighton RCMP continue to investigate.
In Canada, it is a criminal offence to knowingly use and recirculate a counterfeit bill.
