LLOYDMINSTER, Sask., — A 25-year-old woman is in custody facing several charges after a high-speed chase that started when she dragged a police officer with her vehicle and fled, say police.
According to Lloydminster RCMP, on June 22, at approximately 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a local business. Officers located a red Subaru Outback with two females inside. Police checks determined that the vehicle had been stolen out of Loon Lake.
An officer advised the occupants of the Subaru they were under arrest at which time the driver put the vehicle into drive and began to pull forward, dragging the officer before fleeing the area.
A pursuit was initiated. The pursuit entered Saskatchewan, on Highway 17, with speeds more than 180 km/h. The suspect vehicle eventually doubled back on Highway 17 south to Lloydminster, stopping between 50 and 49 Street on 47 Avenue. The suspects attempted to flee but were quickly taken into custody.
Kailey Roy, 25, of Meadow Lake, has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for a peace officer, possession of stolen property over $5,000, assaulting a peace officer, and two counts of failing to comply with release conditions.
After a judicial interim release hearing, Roy was remanded to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on June 25.
The injured officer was taken to hospital, where they were treated and later released.
“They are recovering at home, and we pray for a speedy recovery,” said Alberta RCMP.
