SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN — A couple of weather watches have been issued June 27 for southern Saskatchewan.
A tornado watch is in effect for communities in 41 RMs, including Estevan, Weyburn and Carlyle. According to Environment Canada, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.
“A surface trough moving into southeastern Saskatchewan from Montana this afternoon will focus severe thunderstorm development with the potential for tornadoes. The potential for tornadoes will diminish early this evening,” the advisory states.
Significant damage or destruction to infrastructure, homes and the natural environment is possible, the watch said.
As for the thunderstorm watch, the cities of Regina and Moose Jaw are affected, along with communities in 66 RMs.
The system is expected to move in from Montana in the afternoon and move out of the area later In the evening.
“Some travel delays are possible. Local utility outages are possible,” the advisory said.
