REGINA — Property tax payments are due in Regina on Tuesday, but how much do some of the city’s biggest land areas pay?
Over the past few weeks, SaskToday has reached out to several Regina landowners to gather this information.
Regina’s airport
Regina’s International Airport encompasses 526 hectares of land in the city.
According to the airport, they’re paying roughly $2.2 million in municipal property taxes this year. When including all taxes, the airport will pay over $12 million for 2026
These increases influence the airport's decisions on fees.
“The airport activity looks to grow its revenue through commercial activities, such as parking, real-estate leasing, concession sales and other lines of business in an effort to help cover increased expenses,” said the airport in a statement.
As of now, the airport said they have no short-term plans to increase their land.
Victoria Square Shopping Centre
The Victoria Square Shopping Centre sits on over 10 hectares of land.
This year, the shopping centre will pay over $610,000 in municipal commercial taxes for 2026.
In 2025, the centre paid roughly $491,000 in municipal commercial taxes.
In a statement sent to SaskToday, the centre said although property taxes make up a significant portion of the cost of operations, their focus remains on supporting tenants and attracting customers to the mall.
“Rather than reducing investment in the property, Victoria Square continues to work with tenants, community groups, community organizations, and local businesses to host family-friendly activities, community events, seasonal programming, and other initiatives that help increase customer traffic and enhance the overall visitor experience.”
The mall said they’ll continue reviewing operating costs and look for efficiencies where possible, while balancing a well-managed, attractive and safe property.
University of Regina
The University of Regina currently owns over 117 hectares of local land.
According to the university, they aren’t required to pay any municipal taxes.
“The University of Regina Act and The University of Saskatchewan Act provide that property owned by the universities is exempt from provincial, municipal and school taxes”
SaskToday had also reached out to Costco and the Cornwall Centre, but did not receive a response by the deadline.
