REGINA – A natural gas flare will be occurring near Regina.
In a news release sent by SaskEnergy, the company said the flaring will take place at the Regina Storage facility on Monday, June 29, and Tuesday, June 30. Times are subject to change based on operating requirements.
According to SaskEnergy, residents nearby could see a 40-foot flame being emitted from the area.
The flaring process is necessary to perform maintenance on the natural gas line system in the area to deliver safe and reliable gas, said SaskEnergy.
While the flare occurs, part of the gas line will be isolated from the system, and natural gas will be removed from the line in a controlled burn, which is called a flare.
Flaring is a standard industry practice used when natural gas must be removed from a pipeline, and it can reduce the carbon footprint of vented natural gas by up to 85 per cent.
For public safety, SaskEnergy notes the area will be supervised. SaskEnergy has also notified the RM of Sherwood and the Regina Fire Department about this upcoming event. Meanwhile, natural gas in the area will not be impacted.
