REGINA — The most anticipated part of Canada Day celebrations in Regina are the fireworks.
For the past few years, Paradise Fireworks has handled the display, a responsibility which means a lot to CEO Garrett Brown.
“We do it for the cheers and the honks and the horns going off at the end, knowing that all that work was worth it.”
Work starts three months ahead of time, with permits secured and the site carefully prepared to ensure safety for the event.
During this time, the company secured fireworks from around the world, including Spain, Africa and China.
Brown said this year’s show will feature a variety of fireworks, including falling leaves, golden willows, cylindrical effects, and more.
The fireworks will be set off from Willow Island in the Wascana Centre and on a platform on the water between the island and the Legislature Building.
This year’s event will have roughly 350 cues, meaning one or more fireworks will go off at the same time. Brown said this is the largest number of cues the event has seen.
One noticeable change for the 2026 fireworks is a display with synced music.
“People can watch the fireworks and hear the music on 106.9 FM,” said Brown.
Paradise Fireworks had been working on a synced music show for three years, but Brown said it took time to set up with logistical challenges.
The show begins on Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. and will last 15 minutes.
Brown recommended two spots to watch the show.
“I highly recommend the Legislature or Albert Street bridge there because you should be able to hear the music clearly … from the sound stage.”
Looking ahead to the future, Brown is hopeful Paradise Fireworks will return for more shows with different displays.
“It would be great to eventually stage a single-shot display, such as Roman candles or mines firing in a circle around the island, with more isolated effects like crossing comets. The idea would be to work with the island’s trees and maximize the viewing experience for everyone in Regina.”
