MONTREAL LAKE — A driver escaped injury after their vehicle collided with a bear on Highway 2 near Montreal Lake early June 29.
The Saskatchewan RCMP said officers from the Montreal Lake detachment responded at about 12:35 a.m. to a collision between a car and a bear on Highway 2 near Montreal Lake. The driver, who was the vehicle's sole occupant, did not report any injuries.
RCMP searched the scene and surrounding area but did not locate the bear.
According to SGI, wildlife collisions in Saskatchewan have remained relatively stable over the past five years. The province recorded 8,940 wildlife collisions in 2020, 8,408 in 2021, 9,197 in 2022, 8,955 in 2023 and 8,895 in 2024.
SGI advises drivers to stay alert, particularly at dawn and dusk when wildlife is most active, reduce speed in areas with wildlife warning signs and scan both sides of the roadway for animals that may enter traffic.
