PRINCE ALBERT — Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) has arrested seven people and charged three following a shooting and a high-risk operation on July 4.
Three people, Dallas Robert McLeod-Lacendre, 36, Desiree Rose Sewap, 30, and Kenny Bear, 29, were charged with multiple firearm-related offences. They will make their first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court Monday morning.
The incident started early Saturday morning when officers received reports of gunshots and an injured person at approximately 6:41 a.m. on July 4. When they arrived, they found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital by Parkland Ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police determined that an altercation between a group of people had escalated, resulting in several shots being fired and bear spray discharged. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. The victim and the suspects are known to each other and the incident isn’t random, say police.
Gunfire damaged several nearby houses but police say no residents inside were physically injured.
Later that evening, PAPS executed a search warrant at a home connected to the incident. The event was deemed high risk and categorized as a critical incident, and specialized resources were called to assist. They deployed to manage the incident resulting in a controlled surround-and-call-out. All individuals exited the residence voluntarily, and a search warrant was executed, leading to the seizure of a firearm, ammunition, and other weapons.
McLeod-Lacendre was charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, and breach of three separate firearm prohibition court orders. Bear was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, and breach of six separate firearm prohibition court orders. Sewap was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, and breach of two separate firearm prohibition court orders.
The Prince Albert Police Service Critical Incident Response is the coordinated deployment of command, tactical, negotiation, and specialist resources under a unified incident command structure to manage high-risk or complex events.
