Regina Red Sox 10, Saskatoon Berries 20
The Saskatoon Berries continued to roll Monday night, improving to a league-best 21-9 with a 20-10 mercy-rule victory over the Regina Red Sox.
The Berries pounded out 24 hits, led by Josh Henson's four-hit performance that included a home run and four RBIs. Nathan Houston and Nick Cote each added three hits, while Ethan Murdoch chipped in with three hits and two RBIs.
Saskatoon broke the game open with a five-run third inning before adding seven more in the sixth. The Berries then put the game away with four runs in the eighth to end it by the mercy rule. Diego Quionez earned the win, striking out six over 3.2 innings.
For Regina, leadoff hitter Jalen Meyers collected four hits to raise his batting average to .505, while Regina product Brady Bye belted his ninth home run of the season, a three-run shot.
The Red Sox visit the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Tuesday, while the Berries welcome the Okotoks Dawgs to Saskatoon.
Medicine Hat Mavericks 3, Weyburn Beavers 2 (10 innings)
The Medicine Hat Mavericks needed extra innings to make it two wins in a row, edging the Weyburn Beavers 3-2 Monday night at Tom Laing Park.
Medicine Hat opened the scoring in the second inning when Adam Vulcano drove in Eric Calder with an RBI single. The Beavers answered in the sixth as Brayden Mayencourt tied the game at 1-1 with a run-scoring single.
The Mavericks regained the lead in the 10th inning on Josh Stark's RBI double before adding an insurance run on a wild pitch. Weyburn made it interesting in the bottom half of the inning as Robert Gurney's infield single scored Austin Boylan, but the Beavers left the tying run stranded to end the game.
Cody Myers started for the Mavericks, allowing one run over six innings while striking out seven. Levi Tibbetts picked up the win in relief, striking out five over two innings.
Zach Raichel turned in a strong outing for Weyburn, surrendering just one earned run over nine innings, while Gunner Ferguson was tagged with the loss.
The two teams meet once again Tuesday night in Weyburn.
