Former Saskatchewan Roughriders' DL Charleston Hughes is headed to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
The Canadian Football Hall of Fame announced Wednesday that Hughes is part of its Class of 2026.
Hughes spent three seasons with the Roughriders in 2018, 2019 and 2022, recording 35 of his 136 career sacks while wearing green and white.
The veteran defensive end led the CFL in sacks during both the 2018 and 2019 seasons with Saskatchewan, registering 15 sacks in 2018 and following that up with 16 more in 2019.
His 136 career sacks rank fifth all-time in CFL history. Hughes led the league in sacks five times during his career and remains the only player in franchise history to lead the CFL in sacks on multiple occasions as a member of the Roughriders.
The Saginaw, Michigan, product earned six career All-CFL selections, including two during his time in Saskatchewan.
Hughes captured Grey Cup championships with the Calgary Stampeders in 2008 and 2014 and appeared in four Grey Cup games during his CFL career.
He was named his team's Most Outstanding Defensive Player four times, including in 2019 with the Roughriders.
Over 202 regular-season CFL games, Hughes added 33 forced fumbles, three interceptions and three defensive touchdowns to go along with his sack totals. Two of those touchdowns came with Saskatchewan on fumble returns in 2018 and 2019.
Current Roughriders head coach Corey Mace was a teammate of Hughes with the Stampeders from 2010 through 2015 before coaching him as Calgary's defensive line coach in 2016 and 2017.
Hughes becomes the 38th former Roughrider player inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and the third member of the Class of 2026, joining Brandon Banks and Sean Millington.
