The Moose Jaw Miller Express moved to within one game of first place in the WCBL East Division Tuesday night, sweeping a doubleheader from the Regina Red Sox.
Moose Jaw rolled to a 12-6 win in the opener after building a 7-0 lead through two innings. Michael Rago led the offence with three hits, while Thomas Soto, William Edwards and Pacey Phillips each added multi-hit games. Justin Simard had three hits for Regina, while Lance Anderson and Ty Martinez both homered.
The Miller Express completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory in Game 2. Regina led 2-1 early before Moose Jaw scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings. Eduardo Saenz delivered the go-ahead two-run single before Soto added a two-run double. Soto finished 3-for-4, while Westin Walls struck out 10 over seven strong innings to earn the win.
The Red Sox return home Thursday to host the Okotoks Dawgs.
Meanwhile, the East Division-leading Saskatoon Berries had their two-game winning streak snapped, falling 9-6 in 11 innings to the visiting Dawgs.
Trailing by two in the ninth, the Berries rallied to tie the game on RBI hits from Josh Henson and Nick Cote before leaving the winning run stranded. Okotoks pulled away with three runs in the 11th to take the opener of the two-game series. The teams meet again Wednesday night.
In Weyburn, the Medicine Hat Mavericks completed a two-game sweep of the Beavers with a 12-5 victory at Tom Laing Park.
Weyburn held a 5-3 lead after four innings before Medicine Hat erupted for six runs in the seventh and never looked back. Frankie Giacalone led the Mavericks with three hits, including his ninth home run of the season. The Beavers have now dropped five straight and travel to Swift Current tonight.
The Swift Current 57's outslugged the Brooks Bombers 13-11 in one of the wildest games of the season.
Keagan Knowler and Jake Hiromoto each blasted two home runs, giving both players a league-leading 11 on the season. The 57's saw an 11-6 lead disappear before Hiromoto's two-run homer in the ninth proved to be the game-winner.
Elsewhere, the Lethbridge Bulls edged Sylvan Lake 4-3 for their ninth win in 10 games, while Energy City swept a doubleheader from Fort McMurray, winning 3-2 and 6-3.
