REGINA — Regina’s new large-scale community park has opened in the Eastbrook neighbourhood.
Dream Developments, which develops the area, held a grand opening for Maka Park on Sunday.
The park features an accessible playground, the first that adheres to the city’s new accessibility policy.
Incorporated into the playground are smooth rubber surfacing, extra-wide flush pathways, and wheelchair-accessible structures, including adaptive swings with secure harnesses and ground-level musical and sensory panels to support cognitive and sensory play.
Other parts of the park include a multi-tiered pump track, extensive walking and green spaces, and a new community garden operated by the Arcola East Community Association.
"For decades, Dream has been more than just a developer in Regina; we have been a committed partner in shaping the city's growth and urban fabric. Communities such as Eastbrook and Harbour Landing reflect our long-term commitment to creating complete neighbourhoods with inclusive public spaces, family-oriented amenities and a high quality of life,” said Jason Carlston, vice-president, land, Dream.
Carlston said Maka Park is the latest example, having a positive impact in Regina for decades to come.
