ESTEVAN — A Regina driver is facing a hefty fine after he was caught speeding in Estevan.
According to the July 10 police report, police issued a $753 speeding ticket to a Regina man when he was caught on radar travelling 96 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone in the Centennial area of Estevan.
In other recent police news, police received a report of a hit and collision on July 7. The EPS said the incident remains under investigation.
A report came in of an individual trespassing in backyards in central Estevan. Members located an individual a short distance away who matched the description provided, but he denied being on anyone’s property. The EPS said no criminal activity was detected during the field interview, and the individual was sent on his way with a warning about trespassing.
Several youths were reported to be playing on the railroad tracks near the train trestle bridge in west Estevan during the day shift. Members attended and spoke with two young people, who admitted to being on the train tracks. The EPS said they were warned about the dangers of doing so and about trespassing on rail property.
The EPS received two requests for well-being checks on individuals currently living in Estevan. Both were located, the EPS said, and found to be safe and well. The callers for each file were updated.
Police received a report July 8 of the theft of a wallet from an unlocked vehicle. The matter remains under investigation. The EPS reminds the public to ensure their vehicles and property are secured when unattended.
An automated vehicle collision report from the 911 system was investigated. On arrival at the location, no collision was found, but a cellular phone was located in the middle of the road and the EPS said the phone’s impact with the pavement is believed to have triggered an automatic electronic report of a collision.
A complaint of an attempted fraud through online dating was received. The EPS said the intended victim had been communicating with an individual online for several months. The person offered to provide money in exchange for purchasing a quantity of gift cards and providing the numbers in return. No loss was experienced and the victim blocked communication with the scammer.
Two separate well-being checks were requested and completed. The EPS said both individuals were located safe and well.
Police investigated a report of a woman trespassing at a downtown motel. The EPS said it proved to be unfounded.
A noise complaint related to a barking dog was investigated and determined to be a family acclimating a new dog to their yard. The EPS said the homeowners were advised of the complaint and brought the dog into the residence for the rest of the night.
Police conducted an investigation into online posts that the EPS said included material intended to incite hatred. The individual was cautioned regarding this content and agreed to remove the posts.
A report of an attempted scam was received July 10, in which a caller claimed to be a pension plan representative and attempted to gain personal information from the victim. Family members interceded, the EPS said, and no money was lost to the attempt. The matter has been referred to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
EPS members arrested two teenage girls for breaching their conditions of no-contact with each other. The EPS said they were found together, arrested, processed and returned home. They will appear in Estevan Youth Court at a later date to speak to the charges.
A request was received to assist with a female family member who was no longer welcome in a residence. The EPS said she was escorted off the property and cautioned not to return. No further police involvement was required.
EPS members attended to a single-vehicle accident in which the vehicle was stuck in the ditch. The EPS said there weren't any injuries and the vehicle was towed out of the ditch.
A complaint of an individual being bitten by a dog at large was reported. The EPS reported the victim received injuries that required medical treatment. The matter is still under investigation, the EPS said, and referred to the Estevan bylaw enforcement officer for additional follow-up.
A traffic stop conducted during night shift resulted in a 19-year-old driver being charged with driving while suspended. The EPS said his vehicle was impounded.
A complaint of a family member causing a disturbance was received by the EPS on July 11. The subject of the complaint left the scene prior to police arriving, the EPS said, and it was determined that it was a verbal altercation with no further criminal concerns.
EPS members attended to a two-vehicle collision on the north end of Kensington Avenue. No injuries were reported, the EPS said, but one of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
A theft of fuel was reported by a business in south Estevan. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
A homeowner was issued a warning under the noise bylaw after a complaint of excessive noise coming from his property in the Valleyview area.
The EPS received a report of a man going through a local business’ garbage dumpster. The EPS said members attended and located the man, who was cautioned and sent on his way after returning items to the dumpster.
Members assisted by keeping the peace while an individual moved out of a residence shared with his former spouse. According to the EPS, no issues occurred while police were on scene.
Police received a report of a domestic dispute between two sets of tenants in the same building. Members attended, the EPS said, and mediated a resolution between the parties.
EPS members located a dirt bike and side-by-side being operated within city limits. The EPS said the operators were warned that they could receive a fine and have their vehicles seized under a bylaw. The vehicles were subsequently parked at a residence.
Police arrested and charged a 43-year-old Alberta woman for refusing to supply a breath sample during an impaired driving investigation. She was on court-ordered conditions out of Alberta and was subsequently also charged with failing to comply. The EPS said she was grossly intoxicated at the time of the investigation and was lodged in cells, to be released when sober.
The EPS was advised that a patient had left St. Joseph’s Hospital against medical advice and was on foot during the early morning hours. The individual was located several hours later and was transported to his residence as he was adamant that he did not wish to return to the hospital.
A report of a scam was received July 12. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation with additional details pending.
Police received a report of an individual in the hallway of an apartment building who was banging on doors and yelling. Members attended and located the subject nearby. When advised of the complaint, the EPS said she denied causing a disturbance. She was cautioned about her behaviour and sent on her way.
A complaint of a loud stereo at a residence was investigated. The EPS said the matter appears to be an ongoing dispute involving tenants at the same property. The individual was warned under the noise bylaw about playing his music so loud.
Police received a call about a fallen tree in a yard that had damaged a power line. The EPS reported members remained at the residence to ensure public safety until SaskPower employees were able to take control of the scene.
EPS members on patrol observed a railway crossing system that was malfunctioning. CP Rail was contacted, the EPS said, and a repair crew was dispatched to address the problem.
A complaint of an erratic driver who almost struck a pedestrian was investigated. The EPS said the driver was identified and cautioned about the observed driving actions as the complainant wished to remain anonymous.
