REGINA — Regina Police Service says its Aerial Support Unit helped officers locate suspects in two separate investigations in recent days, leading to arrests in a robbery and an assault case.
Police called on the unit’s a 2005 Cessna 182T at about 9:35 p.m. Saturday after a robbery was reported in the 4400 block of Fourth Avenue.
Investigators say a woman was approached by three female suspects, thrown to the ground and repeatedly spat on. During the assault, she dropped her cellphone, which the suspects picked up before fleeing. The phone was later recovered nearby.
The Aerial Support Unit located three people matching the suspects' descriptions a few blocks from the scene. Patrol officers arrested two suspects without incident. Police later determined the third person was not involved.
A 20-year-old Regina woman and a 17-year-old girl, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are each charged with robbery.
Shortly after midnight Monday, the Aerial Support Unit again assisted officers responding to a disturbance at a home in the 4700 block of Pasqua Street.
Police say the tactical flight officer, who accompanies the pilot, both RPS officers, spotted a man who appeared to be kicking the home's front door. When officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot.
Members of the Regina Police Service canine unit pursued the suspect and arrested him with the assistance of a police service dog. He was taken to hospital to be treated for a dog bite suffered during the arrest.
Police say the suspect had assaulted an adult man at the residence earlier in the evening before leaving and later returning. The suspect and victim know each other, say police.
A 19-year-old Regina man is charged with assault, resisting arrest and two counts of breaching court-ordered conditions.
