ESTEVAN — An Estevan business reported receiving a counterfeit $50 bill as payment.
According to the July 14 report from the Estevan Police Service, the investigation is ongoing and local businesses are urged to inspect cash payments received to determine if additional bills are circulating. Any other counterfeit money being received locally to be reported to the EPS as soon as possible.
On July 13, EPS members attended a residence to conduct a well-being check at the request of a service organization in Estevan. The individual was safe and well, and in the care of family members.
Staff at a central Estevan motel requested EPS assistance with a woman who was on the property despite having been issued a trespass notice. EPS said members attended, located the woman and escorted her off the property without incident. She was cautioned that returning to the business would result in her being charged criminally.
The EPS responded to a domestic disturbance involving family members in which property was being damaged. The EPS said a teenager was removed from the home and alternate arrangements were made for accommodation with other family members to prevent further escalation.
A man was reported to be consuming alcohol in public in the downtown area. EPS said he was located and cautioned before being sent on his way.
Several calls for service came in regarding the same residence, where tenants were upset over each other’s noise. The EPS said follow-up and mediation will occur with both parties.
A report of a potential fraud involving two individuals who had recently started dating was received by EPS. It remains under investigation.
On July 14, EPS received a request to conduct a well-being check on an individual that was believed to be intoxicated. The EPS said members attended the individual’s residence and found her to be safe and well.
EPS received a report of an assault during the day shift, which the EPS said is under investigation with statements pending.
EPS members attended to a complaint of a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in the Hillside area of Estevan. The EPS said both parties were spoken to and agreed to separate for the night to prevent escalation.
A traffic stop resulted in the driver being issued a three-day driver's licence suspension and providing samples of blood for analysis after performing poorly on roadside standardized field sobriety tests. The EPS said charges for impaired driving by drugs are pending due to the blood samples.
Alarms at several financial institutions were received during the night on July 14 and are believed to have been caused by the thunderstorm passing through at the time. Each alarm was attended to by EPS members and the buildings were found to be secure.
EPS members attended to a motel in the city centre July 15 for a complaint of a domestic disturbance in a public area of the business. Both parties involved were spoken to but refused to provide statements. No visible signs of violence were observed and both individuals were sent on their way.
Also on July 15, EPS attended St. Joseph’s Hospital to assist staff with an unruly patient. The individual continued to be disruptive after members arrived and was eventually arrested for causing a disturbance. The EPS said she was lodged in cells to prevent a continuation and arrangements were made for her release into the care of a family member.
EPS stated that a report of an ongoing noise complaint was received, and the investigation is continuing with additional statements to be obtained.
A search of a residence occupied by an individual on court-ordered conditions was conducted during the night. The EPS reported the individual was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested for breaching their conditions and lodged in cells to appear in court.
An adult male was arrested for assaulting a 15-year old youth at a business in the centennial area at night. The incident followed an argument involving several young people and the man, all of which was captured on video. EPS said statements were obtained from multiple witnesses on-scene and the male was charged and released on an undertaking to appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a future date.
The EPS conducted a traffic stop which resulted in an impaired driving investigation on a 25-year old woman. EPS said she was issued a three-day driver's licence suspension and 3-day vehicle impoundment as her blood alcohol content was just below what would have resulted in criminal charges.
