It was nine years ago this week that Hall of Fame rocker and Saskatchewan native, Kenny Shields, was lost to generations of fans and the Canadian music industry.
July 21, 2017, when Streetheart front man Kenny Shields passed away from a heart condition at just 69 years old.
Rising to fame as the singer for Saskatoon band Witness Inc., Shields’ distinctive voice and warm personality won the hearts of music lovers across the country. In 1970, Shields was seriously injured in accident that required a lengthy recovery. In 1976, he returned to the industry as the front man for Regina’s iconic rock band Streetheart.
His career spanned more than 50 years, included multiple platinum albums, and a Juno award. Fans and friends mourned as the death of a legend dominated the headlines and airwaves. He was especially beloved by Saskatchewanians, who fondly claim him as their own. He was born Oct. 25, 1947, in Nokomis, Saskatchewan.
