A thrilling week of CFL action brought plenty of movement in the SportsCage.com Power Rankings, with the Montreal Alouettes climbing back into the No. 1 position and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers making the biggest jump of the week.
Winnipeg vaulted three spots from seventh to fourth after erasing a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to stun Ottawa 36-34 in overtime. Meanwhile, the Toronto Argonauts suffered the largest drop, falling from fifth to eighth following another heartbreaking loss.
1. Montreal Alouettes (Last Week: 2)
The Alouettes are back on top after surviving a furious fourth-quarter rally to defeat Calgary 38-32. Montreal looked in complete control before allowing 21 late points, but found enough offence to improve its standing. With another victory over a quality opponent, the Alouettes edge Saskatchewan for the top spot this week.
2. Saskatchewan Roughriders (Last Week: 1)
The Roughriders slide one spot despite not playing in Week 7. Saskatchewan remains one of the CFL's elite teams, but Montreal's victory over Calgary was enough to move the Alouettes into first. The Riders will have an opportunity to reclaim the top ranking when they return from their bye week.
3. Edmonton Elks (Last Week: 3)
The Elks continue to prove they're legitimate. Edmonton improved to 5-1 by knocking off the B.C. Lions 19-17 behind another efficient performance from Cody Fajardo and a dominant defensive effort that intercepted Chase Brice four times after Nathan Rourke exited with an injury. The Elks have quietly become one of the league's most complete football teams.
4. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Last Week: 7)
No team made a bigger statement than Winnipeg.
The Blue Bombers rallied from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit before defeating Ottawa in overtime in one of the most entertaining games of the season. Dru Brown threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns against his former team, including the game-tying score late in regulation before leading Winnipeg to victory under the CFL's new overtime format.
If Winnipeg can continue to get this level of quarterback play, the Blue Bombers will be climbing even higher.
5. Calgary Stampeders (Last Week: 4)
The Stampeders drop one spot after falling 38-32 to Montreal, but they showed plenty of resilience. Trailing comfortably entering the fourth quarter, Calgary scored 21 unanswered points to make things interesting before running out of time. Vernon Adams Jr. threw three touchdown passes in the loss, proving the Stampeders remain capable of competing with the league's best.
6. B.C. Lions (Last Week: 6)
The Lions stay put despite losing to Edmonton, largely because Nathan Rourke left the game after just two offensive plays with a shoulder injury. B.C.'s defence kept the game within reach, but four interceptions by backup Chase Brice were too much to overcome. The Lions' outlook now depends heavily on Rourke's health.
7. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Last Week: 8)
Hamilton moves up one spot after finding a way to beat Toronto 24-23 in dramatic fashion.
The Tiger-Cats appeared to let a comfortable lead slip away before surviving when Lirim Hajrullahu missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired. It wasn't perfect, but Hamilton continues to stack wins.
8. Toronto Argonauts (Last Week: 5)
The biggest tumble this week belongs to Toronto.
The Argonauts have now dropped three spots after another painful loss, this time falling 24-23 to Hamilton when a last-second field goal sailed wide. Chad Kelly nearly engineered another comeback, but moral victories don't count in the standings. Until Toronto starts finishing close games, they'll continue sliding.
9. Ottawa REDBLACKS (Last Week: 9)
Ottawa remains in the basement after suffering perhaps its most frustrating defeat of the season.
The REDBLACKS controlled much of the game, built a 17-point fourth-quarter lead and had multiple chances to put Winnipeg away, including being stopped three consecutive times from the one-yard line. Another collapse leaves Ottawa still searching for its first victory under head coach Ryan Dinwiddie.
