ILE-A-LA-CROSSE – Three teenagers have been charged following a firearm discharge in Île-à-la-Crosse.
On July 16 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge in a treed area near Amisk Crescent in Île-à-la-Crosse. It was reported to police that three teenaged males were seen exiting the treed area shortly after the incident.
Officers responded and located the three teenaged males on Lajeunesse Avenue in Île-à-la-Crosse. As a result of investigation, the three teens were arrested.
During the arrest, Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP located and seized two sawed-off firearms and bear spray that the teens had in their possession.
The three teenaged male suspects, who are all from Île-à-la-Crosse, are each charged with:
- two counts, possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence/registration;
- three counts, possession of a concealed weapon;
- two counts, careless use of a firearm; and
- three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Two of the teens were additionally charged with one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The third teen was additionally charged with five counts, weapons possession contrary to order, and one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized.
Police are unable to identify the teenaged suspects as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
They are scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on July 20.
