REGINA — Several key items will make up the 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 22 Regina executive committee meeting agenda.
These include:
Transfer of Orange Buffalo Lodge
The City of Regina is looking to transfer ownership of the Orange Buffalo Lodge to YWCA Regina.
The lodge will be a 30-unit affordable housing space to assist low-income children, youth, seniors and families seeking a higher-quality life. Construction started in 2023, with the intent to open in 2024, but completion stalled due to additional funding required.
The North Central Family Centre had been overseeing the project, but ownership was transferred to the city in early 2026.
If the deal is approved in the coming weeks, YWCA Regina will operate the space for a 20-year term, though it’s unclear when the deal would close or when the lodge is expected to open.
The city had previously said the lodge was expected to completed by the summer.
Housing strategy
The City of Regina has adopted a new housing strategy in the wake of the city’s housing market.
The creation of the Regina Housing Strategy focused on several key areas, including supporting affordable housing, using city-owned land assets to expand the housing supply, redeveloping underused sites, and addressing other housing needs.
Included in the strategy are 36 deliverable items, 10 of which can be done by 2027. Short-term goals include leveraging major city-owned land assets to achieve strategic housing goals, supporting rent-to-own housing models, and creating educational tools and resources, in collaboration with industry partners, to support incremental development of missing-middle housing.
Meanwhile, items starting later include a greater percentage of accessible units, collaborating with the community to support labour market and skills development for residential construction, and expanding employment options within neighbourhoods by loosening restrictions on resident business licenses.
All items approved at Wednesday’s meeting will be moved to the July 29 city council meeting for final approval.
