LLOYDMINSTER, Alta./Sask. — A four-day crime reduction blitz across the border city resulted in over 50 arrests and more than 100 charges, according to Lloydminster RCMP.
From July 14 to July 17, Lloydminster RCMP along with Lloydminster General Investigative Services and Crime Reduction Unit, K Division RCMP Air Services, Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services, F Division Crime Reduction Teams, Saskatchewan Marshals Service, F Division Combined Traffic Services, Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, Kitscoty Crime Reduction Unit and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team all jointly participated in enforcement action in the city targeting provincial and federal offenders.
This planned operation targeted non-compliant drivers, people with outstanding arrest warrants and locations/people posing ongoing enforcement issues.
“Operations such as this deter crime, in addition to making drivers become more aware of obeying traffic laws which makes our city safer” said Cpl. Jason DeCoste of the Lloydminster RCMP Crime Reduction Unit in a statement Wednesday. “By bringing in partner agencies and other RCMP units we are able to effectively enforce laws with a goal of enhancing safety for all residents.”
As a result of the operation:
-More than 200 vehicles were stopped;
-118 provincial violation tickets issued;
-197 warnings issued;
-17 Drug related suspension/impounds;
-11 Alcohol related suspension/impounds;
-28 vehicles seized;
-2 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges laid;
-16 additional Criminal Code charges;
-52 warrants for arrest executed; and
-Other various offences such as bylaw contraventions recovered stolen property.
