REGINA —The University of Regina has welcomed Dr. Ellyn Lyle as the new Provost and Vice-President (Academic).
She began a five-year term on July 1, following the completion of Dr. David Gregory’s two-year appointment as interim Provost and Vice-President (Academic), which ended on June 30.
Dr. Lyle comes to the U of R from Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia, where she served as the Dean of Education and Health. Prior to that, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Education at Yorkville University. During her extensive career across complex post-secondary environments, Dr. Lyle’s leadership has advanced academic planning, program renewal, faculty recruitment, equity-focused hiring and mentoring, accreditation, and new program development.
“Dr. Lyle’s commitment to academic excellence and student success – along with her proven track record in these areas – will be an invaluable asset to educators and students alike at the University of Regina,” says Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor. “I am certain that Dr. Lyle will provide visionary leadership in support of the University's academic mission, and make equally strong and inspiring contributions to the University’s leadership team.”
During her time in senior leadership, Dr. Lyle has also remained actively engaged in teaching and research, ensuring that her work is grounded in lived academic practice. She is currently the Principal Investigator on Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) funded research examining international student experiences in Canadian post-secondary education – work that informs her leadership in recruitment, retention, and belonging.
She believes universities have a responsibility to build communities where students, faculty, and staff feel they belong and where academic excellence and human connection reinforce one another.
