REGINA — A decision to possibly release Chris Fahlman on bail before his trial has been put on hold.
At the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal on Thursday, Fahlman appeared on video as his defence argued against a decision made in late 2025 to deny his bail at the Court of the King’s Bench in Weyburn. Fahlman appealed the decision to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal to be released from custody for the next few months.
The 43-year-old was arrested in November for manslaughter and firearms charges in the death of 44-year-old Tanya Myers, but his charges were later stayed, resulting in him now facing second-degree murder.
The charges stem from Sept. 12, 2025, when Myers was travelling in a vehicle on Highway 39 near Weyburn. The vehicle was struck by bullets, and Myers suffered fatal injuries. She died in an ambulance while being transported for medical care.
Nearly two months into the investigation, Fahlman was stopped by police in Regina on Nov. 1 and has remained in custody since then.
For two hours on Thursday, the defence and Crown made their cases on whether the original decision by the Court of the King’s Bench in Weyburn should stay or be overturned.
Ultimately, the judge reserved the decision, meaning time is required to consider both sides of the argument.
A written decision by the judge will be provided at a later date.
