ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service is reminding the public about bylaws for parking vehicles on city streets.
According to a news release from the EPS, municipal bylaws require vehicles parked on public streets and highways to be parked parallel to the curb. The only exception is when signage or lane markings indicate angle parking is allowed, such as the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Fourth Street.
"Many city streets and residential roadways have limited space for emergency vehicles responding to calls for service, even when vehicles are properly parked," the EPS said.
Vehicles that block sidewalks or obstruct roadways might result in enforcement action under The Traffic Safety Act, including charges against the driver or registered owner; the towing of the vehicle; and/or the issuance of a municipal bylaw ticket under the City of Estevan bylaw.
Motorists are asked to be mindful when parking large vehicles, recreational vehicles or trailers that might impede traffic flow or restrict access for emergency vehicles responding to incidents in the community.
