SECHELT, B.C. — A 53-year-old Saskatchewan man charged in connection with a romance scam that defrauded a British Columbia woman of $110,000 will stand trial.
A preliminary hearing for Michael Paul Snow was held in Sechelt Provincial Court on July 27. The judge determined there was enough evidence for him to stand trial and the matter has gone to the Supreme Court of British Columbia to set a trial date.
There is a publication ban on the evidence presented at the preliminary hearing to protect a fair trial.
Snow, originally from Maple Creek, Sask., was arrested in Maple Creek on June 24, 2025, following an extensive investigation by the Sunshine coast RCMP.
Police say the fraud started in June 2023 when a woman reported that a man she met online had swindled her out of a substantial sum after gaining her trust and persuading her to invest in a fake business venture.
Police later identified additional victims linked to Snow’s alleged scheme, leading to a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.
Snow was charged with fraud over $5,000 and was released.
